Best Games For The Nintendo Wii
Christmas is over, and the gifts have been given and received. Perhaps you got everything you wanted, including the much-coveted Nintendo Wii console you had been asking for. Or maybe you were already a Wii-head and got a bunch of gift cards to your favorite electronics or videogame store. Either way, it’s time to do your research and pick the very best Wii virtual console games on the market to spend your plastic present on.
According to GameStop.com’s rating system, the following games are the best (rating 6.0 to 9.5 on a scale of 10), from highest score: Super Smash Bros. Brawl; Super Mario Galaxy; Okami; World of Goo; No More Heroes; The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess; Mario Kart; Call of Duty: World at War; Guitar Hero World Tour; Rock Band and Rock Band 2; Wii Sports; Animal Crossing: City Folk; Wii Fit; and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
So what does it all mean? Let’s focus on the Editors’ Choices. The games with the highest score (a 9.5) are Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. It warms my heart to know that gamers’ favorite plumber is till topping the charts with his and his posse’s hijinks. A great thing about Super Smash Bros. Brawl is that it includes not only the ability to play online with multiple players, but to do so with ease, as there is very little lag involved. Conversely, there is a single-player adventure mode with a length that is nothing to roll your eyes at. Also at a player’s fingertips is a feature that allows them to share replays, screenshots, and custom levels with their not-so-savvy friends. Unfortunately, these custom levels can’t be used during online games against cyber-opponents.
Super Mario Galaxy is heavy on aesthetics, so for those you playing in your windowless basements, this is the game for you. The graphics and level designs are colorful beauties, and there are tons of levels and stars to play and find, respectively. Possibly the best pro on Super Mario Galaxy’s list is the controls: they’re nearly flawless and extremely tight. The only complaints that seem to surface about the game are: a couple of Mario’s suits being difficult to maneuver, and the storyline not quite making as much sense as it could. I guess a game can’t be perfect, but this one sure sounds close; not to mention super (get it, super?) enjoyable for both beginners and seasoned gamers.
Okami, No More Heroes, and World of Goo also received top honors of Editors’ Choice this year, all with a score of 9.0. Like Super Mario Galaxy, Okami is a beautiful game that is art in itself. No More Heroes continues the gory story of Travis Touchdown and his mission to the top of the assassin’s league. World of Goo is the oddball on the list, as it’s a puzzle game where the player uses goo droplets to build structures.
Whether you decide to spend your holiday money on a plumber, an assassin, or a bunch of goo, it’s clear that getting a game for your Wii will be money well spent.
